Six metres, curved corners and a wet area to work around
Every project has its own constraints, so we manufacture to suit them rather than asking a design to bend around a catalogue. For the bathroom refurbishment at Castle Hill RSL, that meant two custom LUS529 suspended luminaires built to the project drawings.
The team at Castle Hill RSL had a clear plan. They had drawn up drawings showing how the bathroom lighting should sit in the space. It needed to be a suspended rectangle, just over six metres long, with curved corners, and the run had to look unbroken. On top of that, the room is a wet area, so the luminaire needed a proper IP rating.
As a manufacturer we adapt our profiles to suit each project. That covers custom configurations and unusual ceiling layouts, plus bespoke shapes and orientations. So a shape like this one is straightforward for us. We simply custom-manufacture to the drawing.
Turning the plans into a 6120mm luminaire that fits through a doorway
We started with the plans, and the finished size came to 6120mm by 2300mm with a 490mm radius on every corner. First we issued an approval drawing, marking the overall size, corner radius, cable entry points and junction locations. The contractor checked it against the ceiling layout and signed off. Then production began. For wet areas we recommend IP rated products, because they stand up to the elements and meet Australian and New Zealand standards for lighting. These luminaires went out at IP54, with a waterproof coating on the PCB.
The specification also called for separate DALI control, so one channel runs the direct downward output and the other runs the indirect upward output. Long runs install more easily in sections. So we built each luminaire in ten segments, with concealed joining points. Electrical contractors could then carry the pieces through a doorway and assemble them at height. We fixed the cable positions on the same drawing too, so the AC and DALI supply landed where the luminaire needed it.
Key specifications:
- 6120mm x 2300mm overall, 490mm corner radius, 50mm x 90mm aluminium profile
- 20W per metre direct and 10W per metre indirect, 3000K
- Separate DALI control across direct and indirect
- IP54 with waterproof coated PCB
- 100-240VAC
- Suspended on 2 metre wires

Oval bathroom lighting that meets rounded mirrors and curved benches
Suspended lighting that works in both directions gives you two layers to play with. The indirect output washes the ceiling, which lifts the plane visually, so the room feels taller than it measures. Underneath, the direct output covers the basins and mirrors.
DALI addresses each layer on its own. Designers can hold the ceiling wash steady and bring task levels down, or run a softer scene outside peak hours without losing usable output at the mirrors.
At 3000K the output sits warm against the tiling and joinery, which keeps the finishes reading the way you chose them. Warm colour temperatures also suit a club interior better than neutral white, especially in bathroom lighting.
The white opal diffuser runs right through the corners, so the luminaire reads as one continuous run rather than a series of segments. The 490mm radius softens the rectangle just enough. It still reads as a rectangle, not a circle.
We custom-manufacture across configurations, shapes, orientations, finishes, colour temperatures and control gear. Most projects start with our linear profile range, and from there we adapt. Electrical engineers and contractors get an approval drawing before we make anything, while architects and designers get the shape they drew. Send through your plans or even a rough sketch, and we will tell you what is possible.
