Getting clinical lighting right on a brand-new build

The demand in Melbourne’s south-east suburbs for healthcare has grown fast. The Cranbourne Community Hospital, run by Monash Health, was a direct result of this need. After years of planning and construction, the facility opened in late 2025. After some setbacks, the small public hospital now hosts a range of health services. Those with non-emergency problems can visit with everyday bumps, cuts and bruises.

This project needed downlights, panels and emergency lighting across clinical and public spaces. All luminaires needed to comply with AS/NZS 1680.2.5 for hospital and medical tasks. Well-designed hospital lighting supports both patient recovery and staff performance. Research shows adjusted colour temperature, lux levels and natural lighting can be beneficial.

Industralight is well-versed in supplying lighting for the healthcare industry. And we understand how important it is to get each medical project right. Our work with the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Victorian Specialist Centre showcases our success in Victoria.

The steps that took Cranbourne from plans to performance

Our experienced professionals began the project by developing detailed lighting simulations. We took the hospital’s architectural plans to build out the calculations. Using cutting-edge photometric modelling, our team matched recommended luminaires to each space. We ensured we met the specifications required, from the lumen output to glare control.

On approval, each product was made to spec using Industralight’s specialised technology. And our quality control ensured they would handle the demands of a healthcare area. We sent several deliveries from April to June, coordinating with the build schedule. The electrical contractors on the site took a staged approach to installation. And kept the project running on track.

The team works on full transparency and open communication. It’s this customer-centric approach throughout the entire process that sets us apart. Our team will ensure quality service, whether you need standard or custom fixtures.

Cranbourne’s new standard for hospital lighting

Cranbourne Community Hospital is now open and serving the community. The lighting installed by contractors across the facility performs perfectly. And they are a genuine reflection of the simulations our engineers developed. Most importantly, they sit within AS/NZS 1680.2.5 standards for hospital environments.

The result is a modern hospital where staff can work with confidence and patients can feel at ease. Proper lighting supports clinical accuracy and contributes to a calmer environment for recovery. The $800 million hospital creates a safe environment where everyone can feel welcome. Staff, patients and visitors move through spaces with consistent and health-based lighting.

For complex projects like this, Industralight can support with experience and best practices. Our experts can help across projects where healthcare and safety matter, including:

  • Aged care facilities, similar to the Nellie Melba continuum of care community in Victoria
  • Sports centres and gyms like the Port Macquarie Stadium in New South Wales
  • Pharmaceutical companies and factories like the Noumed warehouse in Adelaide
  • Other hospitals and healthcare units, like the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney
