Upgrading old fixtures in a new gym with streamlined lighting
Dark interiors are beautiful until you try to light them. Too much light and you lose the mood. Too little and you create a safety risk. REVL Training wanted their new gym to feel bold and immersive as they offer ‘a new era of functional fitness.’
The franchise kept similar styling but needed new lighting. With dark interiors, the existing spotlighting wouldn’t be appropriate for gym activity. It created dark spots, didn’t provide enough light and wasn’t broad enough for the wide rooms. In the gym where members are moving heavy equipment, lighting is a serious safety concern.
What was envisioned was a solution that could spread bright, even light across the full floor. While simultaneously blending in with the dark ceiling.
Custom configuration and refinishing create the ideal lighting solution
The electrical contractor got in touch and talked us through what the project needed. Black fixtures, strong output across a long run and a linear layout that would suit the shape of the space.
We settled on the HLP7477 Linear LED System and refinished it in black. It is a well-built aluminium linear luminaire with a low, clean profile that can sit flush to the ceiling. Available in custom lengths, it suited the project perfectly. In black against a dark ceiling, it becomes part of the architecture rather than a fixture sitting on top of it. We supplied 16 lengths at 2500mm each.
To get the brightness the space needed, we doubled up the VRX14 LED Striplight. And supplied with 200mm tails per the contractor’s request. It is a premium LED strip with a high colour rendering index and excellent output per metre. And running two strips per luminaire pushed the light level up considerably. Altogether, the 40 metres of luminaire spanned the gym floor in multiple lengths to suit.

The streamlined gym now features lighting ideal for safety and energy. Gym-goers can train with heavy equipment safely and view their form clearly. And the fixtures provide excellent energy saving with ideal performance. The HLP7477 system sits cleanly and blends in with the dark ceiling. And the gym’s moody feel remains intact with the black refinishing. The linear lighting doesn’t detract from the style and is much easier to maintain.
The doubled VRX strip delivers bright, consistent light across the training space. There are no dim corners, no patchy zones and no compromise on visibility near the equipment. The space is safe and well-lit, and it looks exactly how the team envisioned.
