St Paul’s Grammar School built an Innovation Centre. They wanted to support student learning. Gardner Wetherill built this new two-level teaching space. The facility has quiet study spaces and areas for group work.
Industralight lit the building inside and out. We chose lighting for learning areas, hallways, staff rooms and bathrooms. Study rooms needed task lighting and the library needed long fixtures to span the wide space. Outside paths and entrances required powerful illumination for safety after dark. So each zone has a different purpose that needed a different fixtures to suit. The building’s varied ceiling heights provided a challenge for open areas. Also, the large windows allowed natural light to flow through. Ultimately, the school needed lighting that suited the building. And also allow for optimum learning and education practices.
Blending off-the-shelf and custom solutions for optimal results
Our team received the plans, and our engineers created lighting simulations from them. We made shop drawings for custom pieces. And delivered data sheets to match specifications.
Some of our standard products were ideal. Fittings like our wall WDL and IPW luminaires were already in stock. And we supplied external weather-proof VXW battens, some with emergency features. We also had downlights in both black and white finished as per the plans.
Others needed more custom work. Linear pieces needed specific dimensions. Some were made to be hung at different heights and lengths from the ceiling. We delivered certain profiles in segments. Some recessed options were set with screw fixing and others were surface-mounted. The contractor also wanted striplighting and we cut the profile to spec.
Our success comes from open communication and expert knowledge. And our ongoing relationship with this client proves we work well together. We sent four orders within two months, arriving on schedule to site.
