Visionary lighting for unexpected spaces
Calamvale Central’s main walkway was part of Buchan Group’s eastern wing renovation. The old Big W space was being split into several new stores along this central corridor. The main walkway would become the primary route connecting all the new retailers together. Standard strip lighting would have created a stark tunnel effect between stores. It needed custom pendants that would make the walkway feel welcoming rather than clinical. Shoppers had to feel drawn down this corridor to discover the new stores. Generic ceiling lights wouldn’t give the walkway the character it needed. The corridor was the key to making the whole renovation work for foot traffic.
Golden pendants illuminate the way
We designed 18 custom pendants specifically for the main walkway for the renovation. Our team developed a plan adhering to the vision. The fixture was finalised in the following details:
- Metallic gold powder-coated interior
- Matt black exterior
- LED lamp
- 900mm shade diameter with a 1.5m rod suspension
The pendants would be supported by additional suspended white luminaires and festoon lighting. The combination of lighting would support the shopping centre visitors to navigate through the space. And the pendants would stand out, adding a touch of gold to the black and white infrastructure.
These walkway pendant designs could work well for:
- Hotels, restaurants or bars that favour ambient lighting
- Community or multi-function centres requiring different layers of lighting
- Family-friendly spaces that embrace unique fixtures in their styling

A glowing connection between the old and new
The main walkway now showcases what thoughtful pendant lighting can achieve in retail spaces. Our custom luminaires match the design style that Buchan Group envisioned for the renovation. What could have been another unimaginative shopping centre corridor became something engaging. The pendant design elevates the walkway from pure utility into an attractive feature of the centre. The warm luminaires complement the modern finishes and create visual interest overhead. The corridor now feels like an intentional design element rather than leftover space between stores.
