A shared space needing safer and brighter lighting
Community spaces bring people together. However, when lighting falls short, these shared areas can feel unwelcoming after dark. The entry to this apartment block served as more than just a walkway. It is a shared space with shops, eateries, and outdoor seating where people gather.
As evening approached, the space became dim and uninviting. The building management team recognised that better lighting was essential for safety. Additionally, the new exterior lighting would need to withstand Melbourne’s unpredictable weather. As a lighting supplier in Melbourne, we were trusted to enhance safety for this vibrant area.
Weatherproof highbays designed for exterior conditions
Working together with the committee of the building, we recommended an industrial fixture. The PHB200 architectural LED highbay not only fits in with the aesthetic. But the solid alloy construction with a tempered glass visor makes it a durable option too. These are engineered to handle the challenges of outdoor applications. The committee also requested a sensor to automatically adjust the luminaire’s output. It would automatically adjust based on ambient light levels. This would also provide enhanced energy and cost savings.
The installation process was straightforward. The adjustable design meant surface-mounting the fixtures didn’t require any accessories. They were attached to curved columns and flat walls using the hinged bracket. The lamps were angled down for optimum light across the pavement.
Our collaborative approach ensured the contractors had full support throughout the process. We provided technical guidance and responded quickly to any questions. This approach is what sets Industralight apart from other lighting manufacturers in Victoria.

Illuminated pathways create a welcoming environment
The powerful lighting now illuminates the public space brilliantly at night. The previously dim conditions once made the space feel closed off. Now bright LED lighting welcomes residents and visitors throughout the evening. The walkways leading to shops and the apartment entry are consistently well-lit. The weatherproof construction of the highbay luminaires has proven its worth. Melbourne’s weather can shift rapidly, yet the lighting system continues to perform reliably. And the water resistance built into each luminaire protects against moisture ingress.
Furthermore, the daylight sensor delivers automated illumination. As natural light fades, the LED lighting transitions smoothly to full brightness. Conversely, during daylight hours, the system conserves energy by remaining off. This automatic operation means the building management team can focus on other priorities. The community space now lives up to its potential. Residents feel comfortable using the outdoor seating areas well into the evening. The eateries and shops benefit from improved visibility that draws people in. Most importantly, the lighting contributes to a stronger sense of safety and community.
