Contractors needed lighting supplied to spec on a government-backed job

TAFE NSW Kingscliff sits close to the northern beaches of New South Wales. The campus is partway through a $33.7 million redevelopment. It’s backed by the NSW Government and aimed at meeting the growing demand for skilled trades on the North Coast. The work covers a refurbishment of existing buildings. It also includes two new facilities, a Learning Hub and a Construction and Horticultural Building. Together, they give students hands-on space for courses ranging from electrotechnology to animal studies, fashion to aviation.

Gallagher Jeffs managed the project, handling master planning, procurement and coordination across the build. MBC Group provided building certification services, including design assessment and completion certificates. TCQ Construction carried out the new build works, delivering the classrooms and workshop spaces the redevelopment needed.

A project this size needed a mix of standard and custom lighting across new and refurbished buildings. Every space also had to meet the emergency and exit lighting standards required in a public education building. Industralight worked alongside the project’s electrical engineers and contractors to supply lighting across the campus.

Downlights, a custom linear run and AS2293 compliant emergency lighting

We supplied a mix of recessed and surface mount downlights across the project, chosen for reliable output, a high-efficiency reflector and an easy install. Where extra durability mattered, we used fittings with an IK10 impact rating to handle the wear of a working campus.

A modular slotter downlight was also part of the fit-out, giving a linear profile and tight beam control that works across a range of room types.

We also supplied a customised linear luminaire, made to length for this project rather than pieced together from standard sizes, along with an IP65 rated wall luminaire built for wear and weather.

The project also included recessed and exit luminaires built to AS2293. A handful of fittings needed modifying for this job. Our team drew up shop drawings for each one, giving contractors what they needed to install and sign off without chasing us for answers.

AS2293 compliant lighting, consistent across the redeveloped TAFE

The campus now has lighting that supports the full range of courses it runs, from construction to cooking to fashion design. The custom linear run was made to fit the project rather than forcing a standard length onto it. And the emergency and exit lighting is consistent across the redevelopment, giving staff and students the same standard of safety throughout.

The project reflects how Industralight works on mixed briefs. It’s why contractors and engineers keep coming back to us as their lighting supplier in NSW.
